Events at Sydney Latvian House

Latvian language classes for adults
Classes are held every second Saturday from 11.30 to 1.30pm at the Sydney Latvian Hall. Anyone wishing to learn Latvian is welcome. Classes are held in an informal setting using Latvian language training materials and information on interesting events or facts about Latvia. Classes are FREE.

The SLB Ladies Auxilliary and assistants serve lunch for a most affordable price every Thursday to all who come to meet, chat and eat. Lunch is served at 12:00. It is advisable to book by Tuesday by calling the Latvian House office on (02) 9744 8500. Please note: In the week when the Seniors Meeting is held, there will be no lunch on Thursday.

Commemoration Concert
78th anniversary of mass deportations from the Baltic States
by Soviet Union occupying forces 1941. At Latvian House, 32 Parnell Street, Strathfield.
Guest speaker: Mr Lembit Suur, member of the Estonian community.
The concert will feature performances by Wojciech Wisniewski, piano, Lithuanian ensemble "Atspindys", Estonian Mixed Choir "Kooskõlas", Latvian Mixed Choir. Organised by The Joint Baltic Committee. About 14th June, 1941

Latvian Misummer celebration JĀŅI
Come and enjoy the most Latvian of celebrations. The time when (in Latvia) the sun is at it's highest and all the hard work to prepare for a bountiful harvest has been done. It's time to sing, to dance, to eat and make merry. It's time for both young and old to venture into the forest in search of the mythical "fern flower". Food, drink, music, songs and dances will not be in short supply. Entry is free!

Concert by Rīga Cathedral Girls Choir TIARA
The Riga Cathedral Girls’ Choir TIARA is one of the most prominent and most attractive choral collectives on the Latvian concert stage. They are winners of several international choir competitions and a creative laboratory for many composers and new musical ideas, TIARA are an ensemble of beautiful voices and bright eyes that is treasured and stand out among many other choir singers all over the world. TIARA will be in Australia to participate in the GONDWANA World Choral Festival in Sydney 15-21 July 2019.

Internationally known Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks, his wife film director Dzintra Geka and event organizer Edgars Greste, at Vasks and Geka's lecture about the Latvian children of Siberia, October 2009. Vasks was in Sydney to attend the world premiere performance of one of his works, commissioned for the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
