Events at Sydney Latvian House

Latvian language classes for adults
Classes are held every second Saturday from 11.30 to 1.30pm at the Sydney Latvian Hall. Anyone wishing to learn Latvian is welcome. Classes are held in an informal setting using Latvian language training materials and information on interesting events or facts about Latvia. Classes are FREE.

The SLB Ladies Auxilliary and assistants serve lunch for a most affordable price every Thursday to all who come to meet, chat and eat. Lunch is served at 12:00. It is advisable to book by Tuesday by calling the Latvian House office on (02) 9744 8500. Please note: In the week when the Seniors Meeting is held, there will be no lunch on Thursday.

Concert by ensemble DAGAMBA from Latvia
Dagamba is a Latvian instrumental ensemble that merges classical and modern melodies, eastern and western sounds, as well as other disparate elements to create a unique fusion of music. Their sound, which includes cellos, piano, Persian instruments and drums can be at once steeped in classical traditions and then bursting with modern, popular sounds. Tickets $30/$25. Read more>>

Latvia 100 Anniversary Ball at NSW Parliament House
NSW Parliament House is the perfect venue to celebrate such an important event in the presence of NSW politicians and the Latvian Ambassador to Australia. Firstly, this is the oldest parliament in Australia, and secondly, the room was designed by Australian-Latvian architect Andrew Andersons. Details and ticket purchase.

Internationally known Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks, his wife film director Dzintra Geka and event organizer Edgars Greste, at Vasks and Geka's lecture about the Latvian children of Siberia, October 2009. Vasks was in Sydney to attend the world premiere performance of one of his works, commissioned for the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
