The Sydney Latvian
Playgroup, Primary School and High school runs every
Saturday morning during the school term. The holidays all
coincide with school holidays for NSW.
The school hours are - Saturday mornings 9.30am-1.00pm
Playgroup starts at 10.00am and
finishes at 11.30am
School Activities
In 2015 there are 23 students in four primary school classes
and one secondary school class. The play group has 8-10 pre-school
children.
The school teaches Latvian language, grmmar, history, geography,
singing, arts and crafts, and aslo participates in various
special projects. Lessons are presented in the Latvian language.
The School also conducts a Latvian folk dance group for children
from age 9 onwards and welcomes children who do not attend
the Latvian school and do not speak Latvian. Rehearsals are
held every two weeks on Saturdays 12:30-1:30pm.
School pupils regularly participate with singing and dancing
in a variety of functions held by the Sydney Latvian Society,
such as the annual solstice celebration "Jāņi" on
the 24th of June, and the annual Members Day in March.
In 2014 the Australian Latvian Arts Festival was held in
Sydney in December and many shool pupils and their parents
participated in Festival activities such as the "Wizard
of Oz" theatre production, the folk dance concert, Family
Day, Photography Exhibition and the Short Film Competition
"Pīrāgs".
Fees
The yearly fee for the Primary school is $140 per student.
The yearly playgroup fee is $50.
For 2 or more children from one family in the school or
playgroup the fee is $160.
The yearly fee for one student in the High School class
is $80. There is one class of High School students. (Students
range from years 8-10 in Australian schools)
